Ever heard of the term ‘productivity guilt’? Yep! That nagging feeling doesn’t shake off. Do you feel a need to constantly be productive? Stopping doesn’t seem like an option? And if you resonate with this, read on. This article is for you.

Being put on a pedestal round the clock is not what our minds and bodies are prepared for. We may seem like we are functioning, living and surviving just fine but if we were to look in deeply, the truth might be otherwise.

Being on a clock non-stop affects our health mentally, emotionally, and physically. Let’s check it out in brief.

  • You lose focus of the big picture
  • Live for the weekends and feel blue on weekdays
  • Lack of sleep causes daytime fatigue
  • The heart has to overwork
  • Relationships with others and self get sidelined
  • Increased stress causes an irked immune system
  • Cortisol levels increase

And these are just the tip of the iceberg, a start to the end really.

Now that we know how things can go on in this whirlwind of productivity guilt let’s also talk about how we can get out of it.

The solution is- do nothing. Yes, taking out time everyday for a couple of minutes to do nothing is the mantra. And doing nothing literally means doing nothing. It simply involves to quietly sit down (preferably in a quiet place) for a couple of minutes and do nothing. No music, no smartphones or other gadgets or quaint conversations. Just sitting or standing and doing nothing at all. Try it. It may seem absurd initially but you’ll get used to it and surely look forward to it.

Now that we know what to do, let’s explore why doing nothing is going to be your life’s next big blessing!

For starters, doing nothing brings about clarity of mind. This lets us take a step back and analyse what has been happening and what needs to be done further. Doing nothing is known to relax our nerves and reduce physical and mental fatigue. This has a combined effect on our brains which enhances memory. Our mind requires space, calm and rest to receive and rejuvenate and be optimally functioning. When the mind is in a better state, it ultimately affects our mental and physical state of being.

Technically, doing nothing for sometime everyday for a while would do more good than being constantly occupied with work. Make you more efficient at work and in life.
